In this photo taken Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, customer Daniel Briskin checks out an electric scooter in the Trekker store in Tel Aviv, Israel. Electric scooters have become a common sight on the streets of Tel Aviv, where parking and traffic are major concerns. The popularity of the scooters can be attributed to a combination of factors: the economic recession, the price of gas, heightened ecological awareness, increased population density in urban areas, and technological advancement in the scooters themselves. The scooters are not currently legislated, and no drivers license is needed to drive one. Trekker creator Arik Yehuda hopes the Division of Motor Vehicles will regulate the scooters in the near future. This may happen in light of the scooters growing popularity and a recent fatal accident that killed a man who crashed his electric scooter into a parked car in Tel Aviv.
